Cleft lip and palate is one of the most common anomalies of the face that occurs since birth. Cleft of the lip can extend till the nose(complete cleft lip) or involve only the lip(incomplete cleft lip). If left unrepaired it causes difficulty in sucking and speaking apart from the esthetic deformity.

There is a correct age to address the problem of cleft lip, traditionally advisable when the child attains 5kgs of weight. Santhra was a 6month old baby weighing 6.7kgs when she came to Richardsons dental and craniofacial hospital for correction of the incomplete cleft lip. Her necessary blood investigations were done and were posted for surgery the same day. A paediatric anaesthesiologist monitored the baby throughout the procedure which took about 30 mins. The recovery was uneventful and the baby started mothers feeding an hour after the surgery. The parents were overwhelmed to see their baby looking absolutely normal.
