What are nasal deformity problems?
The nose on the affected side is usually flattened and wide, there is displacement of the cartilages of the nose. The tip of the nose maybe flat or absent in some cases. The nasal bases will be deformed. The nose will be asymmetrical Thus the overall appearance of the nose will be unaesthetic. Also, the septum may be deviated thus causing the patient functional difficulties as well.
What needs to be done for cleft rhinoplasty ?
The main aims of the surgery are to re-establish the normal or near normal anatomy of the nose, realign the position
Establish a tip for the nose, which may require a cartilage graft to be harvested.
The position of the nasal base has to be re-established as well.
When can the cleft nasal surgery be done?
Cleft nasal surgery is usually performed at ages 4 to 5 years, prior to starting school. Because growth may not take place in a normal fashion, revisions of the nasal surgery may be required during 14-15 years of age
