CLEFT MAXILLARY HYPOPLASIA
The children suffering from cleft lip and palate deformity have an underdeveloped upper jaw in most cases, this is known as cleft maxillary hypoplasia. Retrognathic Jaw Surgery successfully taken care in Richardsons Dental and Craniofacial Hospital in India
Why does this happen? The patients suffering from the cleft, have a normally growing lower jaw, however, the growth of the maxilla is slow, hence the lower jaw grows normally but the upper jaw can’t keep up with the growth rate of lower jaw.
The upper teeth are also positioned behind the lower teeth, thus the child has mastication problems, speech problems, oral hygiene cannot be maintained properly.
WHAT DOES RETROGNATHIC JAW SURGERY IN INDIA?
With surgery, the upper jaw can be predictably brought forward, not only normalizing the relationship of the jaws, but also normalizing the relationships of the lips to each other and to the nose.
WHEN CAN SURGERY BE UNDERTAKEN?
The surgery to correct this deformity is undertaken after the jaw growth is completed. Usually done after the child crosses his/her teenage years. That being the best time to operate and also will give optimal results as well.
