What Are The Several Stages Of Mouth Cancer?

Oral cancer is divided into four groups based on the size and spread of a malignant tumour.

Stage 1:

The tumour is little more than 2 cm in diameter and hasn’t yet infiltrated lymph nodes; thus, its spread is limited.

Stage 2:

The tumour can grow up to 4 cms in diameter, but the effect is limited to the site of the infection because lymph nodes have not yet been infected.

Stage 3:

There are two possibilities during this stage. One, the tumour has grown to be larger than 4 centimetres and has infected a single lymph node on the side from where it emerged. Two, the lymph node has a tumour smaller than one inch in diameter.

Stage 4(A):

In the final stage of oral cancer, the circumstances are more varied. The tumour has spread to the lymph nodes on both sides of the neck. Although the tumour has intruded into neighbouring tissues, no lymph nodes have been infected.

Stage 4(B) & (C):

The tumour has grown uncontrollably and spread to one or more lymph nodes on the side where it originated.

What are the Treatment Options for Mouth Cancer In India?

During surgery, cancerous tumours and lymph nodes in the mouth and neck are removed.

Another treatment option is radiation therapy, which includes focusing high-energy radiation beams on the tumour for “one to five days and up to eight weeks.”

Chemotherapy is a treatment that uses chemicals to kill cancer cells. These drugs are administered intravenously or orally.

Drugs used in targeted therapy are designed to bind to specific cancer cells or proteins to stop cancer from growing.

Depending on the type of treatment, the hospital, the surgeon, and other factors, the average cost of oral cancer surgery in India ranges from INR 2,35,000 to INR 5,00,000.
