Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy

Our old patient of cleft lip and palate recently came to us with a recurrent throat infection. The baby is now a cute 4yr old girl from Bahrain who was successfully treated by Dr.Sunil Richardson for left side cleft lip and palate. Her recovery from those primary lip and palate surgeries was so comfortable that she is never distinguished as a cleft child in school or amongst peers. The faith and the bond they developed as patients with the staff and Dr.Sunil Richardsons brought them back to Richardsons Dental and Craniofacial center with the complaint of recurrent throat infections. On examination, we found enlarged tonsils of both sides. It was decided to perform a tonsillectomy for her after giving her a course of antibiotics to eliminate any active infection of the site.

A cleft child- before and after surgery at Richardsons dental and craniofacial Hospital India

The surgical team was headed by an experienced Paediatric ENT surgeon who performed the procedure under general anesthesia. The Tonsillectomy procedure involved taking out the tonsils from their bed from an intra-oral approach which leaves no scar outside on the patients face. No stitches are given either to close the surgical site and the wound is allowed to heal on its own. With good care of oral hygiene and diet, the recovery can be in as less as 3-4 days.
