The term orthognathic comes from the Greek words “orthos” meaning straighten and “gnathic” meaning of or related to the jaw. Hence the term orthognathic, meaning “straighten the jaw.” It is performed to correct a wide range of minor and major skeletal and dental irregularities, including the misalignment of jaws and teeth. The patient’s appearance will be dramatically enhanced as a result of this surgery. orthognathic surgery procedure is also performed to correct functional problems like chewing, speaking and breathing.
